Hand surveys to your marketing tool

Let Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot or your own webhook (Zapier, Make, Salesforce and others) send your surveys instead of Dinopix (Surveys Pro): connecting each tool, building the flow, journey or workflow, the copy-paste score buttons, who receives them, and what the error messages mean.

With Surveys Pro, a survey can be handed to the marketing tool you already use instead of being emailed by Dinopix. Your own flow sends it, in your own design and from your own address, and the answers still come back to Dinopix: the score buttons in your email are Dinopix links, so responses, follow-ups and insights work exactly as they do for emails Dinopix sends.

You can hand surveys to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, or your own webhook. The webhook covers every other tool, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud or ActiveCampaign, through Zapier, Make or your own code.

How It Works

  1. A survey becomes due for a customer, after an order or when you send it by hand.
  2. Dinopix checks it as it would any survey: the customer hasn't unsubscribed, and hasn't had a survey or review request too recently.
  3. Dinopix hands it to your tool with one link, the survey link. Each score button is that link with the score added on the end, so a 9 is the survey link followed by 9.
  4. Your tool's flow sends the email. When the customer taps a score, it lands in Dinopix.

Each send shows as Handed to Klaviyo (or the tool you use) under Customers > CRM Settings > Sent. Handed over means your tool accepted it; whether the email then goes out is up to your flow.

Connect A Tool

Go to Customers > CRM Settings > Email sending and scroll to Marketing tools. Each tool has numbered steps in the app, with links to the right pages. Once it's connected, choose Send a test: it hands over a test survey for your own email address, so you can see it arrive and build your flow. Then open a survey and choose the tool under Send from.

Klaviyo

  1. In Klaviyo, create a private API key named Dinopix (Settings > API keys). Choose Custom Key and give it Accounts: Read Access and Events: Full Access.
  2. Paste it into Dinopix and connect, then choose Send a test. This makes the Dinopix Survey Due metric appear in Klaviyo.
  3. Create a flow with the trigger Metric > Dinopix Survey Due, add an email, and paste the score buttons from Dinopix into an HTML block. Set the flow to Live.

The event carries survey_link, survey_url_0 to survey_url_10, unsubscribe_url, survey_name and business_name, used in Klaviyo as {{ event.survey_link }} and so on.

Mailchimp

  1. In Mailchimp, create an API key (Profile > Extras > API keys), and find your audience ID (Audience > Settings > Audience name and defaults).
  2. Create a Customer Journey with the starting point Customer Journeys API. Mailchimp shows a URL ending in /actions/trigger: copy it.
  3. Add a Send email step after it with the score buttons from Dinopix. In the journey's settings, let contacts go through it more than once, or each customer only ever gets their first survey. Then turn the journey on.
  4. Paste the key, audience ID and URL into Dinopix and connect. Dinopix adds three merge fields to the audience: SURVEYLINK, SURVEYNAME and SURVEYSTOP (the link to stop surveys). To send yourself a test, use an address that is subscribed to this audience.

HubSpot

  1. In HubSpot, create a private app named Dinopix with the scopes crm.objects.contacts.read, crm.objects.contacts.write and crm.schemas.contacts.write, and copy its access token.
  2. Paste it into Dinopix and connect. Dinopix adds four contact properties starting "Dinopix survey": the link, the survey name, the stop link and when it was handed over.
  3. Create a contact-based workflow triggered when Dinopix survey link is known, with re-enrollment on when it changes, so each new survey goes out. Add a Send email action with the score buttons from Dinopix, using {{ contact.dinopix_survey_link }}.

HubSpot workflows that send email need Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise.

Webhook (Zapier, Make, Salesforce and others)

  1. Add an endpoint under Settings > Webhooks, such as a Zapier Catch Hook or a Make custom webhook, and tick Survey due.
  2. Connect Webhook under Marketing tools and send a test.
  3. In your Zap, scenario or code, send the email from your tool, with each score button linking to survey_link plus the score (or use the ready-made survey_urls), and a stop link to unsubscribe_url.

The survey.due event is described in Webhooks. The Survey due webhook is included with Surveys Pro; the other webhook events are part of the Enterprise plan.

Who Receives It

Dinopix never adds or subscribes anyone to your marketing lists. Your tool decides who it emails:

  • Klaviyo only emails profiles that can receive email marketing, unless Klaviyo has approved the flow email as transactional.
  • Mailchimp only emails contacts subscribed to your audience. Dinopix checks first and doesn't add or change anyone who isn't subscribed: their survey shows as failed with "isn't subscribed to your Mailchimp audience", so you can see who it couldn't reach.
  • HubSpot marketing emails only reach contacts set as marketing contacts.

If many of your customers haven't opted in to marketing, sending through your own email provider or Dinopix email reaches more of them.

Unsubscribes

Always include the stop link from the copied buttons. A customer who uses it stops getting surveys and review requests from you through Dinopix, whichever way they're sent. Unsubscribing in your marketing tool only stops that tool's emails.

When Something Goes Wrong

If a tool refuses the hand-off, the connection shows Needs attention with the reason, the survey's Send from says nothing is being handed over, and automatic surveys wait until it's fixed. Dinopix never quietly emails them instead. Common reasons:

  • Refused the key or token: it was deleted, or is missing a permission. Create a new one with the permissions above and connect again.
  • Couldn't find the journey step, or the journey is turned off (Mailchimp): turn the journey on, or paste its API trigger URL again.
  • No active webhook listens for Survey due: tick Survey due on an endpoint under Settings > Webhooks.
  • Refused this contact: they unsubscribed in your tool, or the address is invalid. Only that survey fails.
  • A refusal Dinopix doesn't recognise: surveys are held and the connection asks you to check it and choose Connect again. If the same customer is refused the same way again afterwards, only their survey fails and the rest carry on.

If Surveys Pro ends, surveys go back to Dinopix email until it's back.

Your Key

Keys and tokens are encrypted as soon as they reach Dinopix and are only used to hand over surveys. Only the last four characters are ever shown. Only owners and admins can see or change the connection. Removing it deletes the key from Dinopix; your tool, flows and contacts aren't changed.

Trustpilot Review Invitations

Send review requests to Trustpilot on any Trustpilot plan, including Free, so Trustpilot invites your customers with a verified invitation.

Surveys and NPS

Send NPS and other surveys, ask follow-up questions that change with the score or earlier answers (if / else logic), split long surveys into pages, see your score, response rate and trend for any period and by location, read every answer, and follow up with unhappy customers privately: alerts, an assigned follow-up inbox and replies.
